The shape of diamonds vary from the traditional round cut to other fancy diamond shapes like heart, pear, emerald and more. Choose the shape that reflects the taste and personality of the person that will wear the diamond.

The cut of the diamond has an influence on the high light return, dazzling brilliance, fire and scintillation. A well-cut diamond reflects light to maximize the stone's brilliance. The cut has three components:

  • Diamond cut grade:A standard grading report describes cut by the shape or outline of the diamond and the pattern of the facet arrangement (also known as cutting style).
  • Diamond cut depth:Diamonds cut too shallow or too deep lose light through the bottom or sides, causing the stones to sparkle less.
  • Diamond polish:A poor polish, or rough facets, can diminish a diamond's brilliance, as well as its value.

Cut levels

  • Ideal/ Excellent:Excellent light performance. Reflects almost all of the light that enters. Rare and extremely beautiful cuts.
  • Very Good:Very good light performance. Reflects almost all of the light that enters. Very Good diamond cuts are considered to be an outstanding value.
  • Good:Good light performance. Reflects most of the light that enters. Good diamond cuts are far less pricey than Very Good cuts.
  • Fair:Not as brilliant as a Good cuts or above, Fair diamond cuts are still considered good quality diamonds.
  • Poor:Poor cut diamonds are typically cut too shallow or too deep causing much of the light to leak out of the diamond's sides and base. Most high end diamond retailers do not carry Poor cut diamonds.

There are two types of clarity characteristics: inclusions and blemishes. In order to grade the clarity of a diamond, it is necessary to observe the number and nature of external and internal characteristics of the stone, as well as their size and position. The difference is based on their locations: inclusions are enclosed within a diamond, while blemishes are external characteristics.

To determine the correct color, all submitted diamonds are compared to an internationally accepted master set of stones, the colors of which range from D, or colorless (the most sought after) to Z, the most yellow/brown - aside from "fancy" yellow or brown. The rarest and most expensive are diamonds in the colorless range graded D,E and F on a scale that descends to Z. Diamonds with more color than Z, or in other shades such as orange, pink, blue, etc. are classified as "Fancy Colored Diamonds".

It is important to note that diamonds of the same weight don't necessarily have the same size appearance. Those cut too shallow or deep may look small for their weight, or suffer in brilliance.

The weight or size of a diamond is measured in carats (ct.).

  • 1 Carat = 0,200 gr. Or 200 mg.
  • 5 Carats = 1 gr.
  • 1 Carat = 100 points
  • 1 Grain = 0,25 ct.
  • 4 Grains = 1 ct.

Diamond prices rise exponentially with carat weight. So, a 2-carat diamond of a given quality is always worth more than two 1-carat diamonds of the same quality.

Diamonds and gemstones of similar appearance can have important differences in value. Even experts need powerful analytic tools to detect synthetics, treatments and enhancement processes. That’s the reason why we work exclusively with diamonds certified by the most prestigious institutions (GIA, IGI), which clearly discloses the details of any item it accompanies, providing confidence for both buyer and seller.
